Another drop in the number of active forest fires burning in the Northeast Region.

There were 46 as of Saturday night with 18 listed as ‘not under control’.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says nine fires have been extinguished in the past 24 hours.

Officials also say fire activity was reduced because of recent precipitation, but three new fires were discovered last evening.

Meantime, more support expected from Saskatchewan, Alberta, the Northwest Territories and BC in the coming days.

There are already well over 200 fire fighters, support staff and an Incident Management Team from out-of-province assisting with the forest fire situation.
