For 55 years Francophone culture in North Bay has been celebrated with Carnaval des Compagnons.

This years event, which starts tonight (Thursday), includes some big changes.

“We did a survey at the end of Carnaval last year, to see what people liked, what they wanted to see, so this year is a reflection of that survey. I think we did a good job of incorporating a lot of new things that they were asking for,” said Committee member Lou Gagne.

One change includes a Bonhomme reunion tomorrow night with a day of outdoor activities on Main Street in Downtown North Bay on Saturday.

DIA Executive Director Jeff Serran says there’s something for the entire family.

“You don’t have to be Francophone or French background, this is open to everybody. We have lumberjack shows, horse-drawn wagon rides, there’s music,” he says.

There’s also an ice sculpture demonstration and more.

Saturday’s event runs from 11am to 4pm with a donation for the North Bay Food Bank requested.

Carnaval starts with a wine and cheese event tonight with events lined up through next Wednesday.

There’s also a celebration at Memorial Gardens on Sunday, with the unveiling of Bonhomme.
