There’s fog and rain on tap today (Thursday) in the North Bay area with a special weather statement issued by Environment Canada.

We could see upwards of 25 mm of rain by tomorrow.

The agency calls this event a significant January thaw, but it’ll be short lived.

A strong cold front is expected to move in overnight, with the rain changing to snow, with freezing rain possible in between.

Meantime, school buses across Nipissing and East Parry Sound Districts are cancelled today because of icy conditions.

Schools remain open.

Also of note, Laurentian Ski Hill officials say because of today’s rain and warm temperatures they’re closed for the day.

The Hill is expected to re-open tomorrow.
