A heritage site plaque has been presented to the Capitol Centre to celebrate Ontario Heritage Week, which runs February 20th to 26th.

The North Bay Municipal Heritage Committee says the new heritage plaque discusses the history of the centre and the impact it’s had on the local arts community.

This is a big year for the Capitol Centre.

As we hear in this archive audio of then Mayor Stan Lawlor, it was 30 years ago on April 2nd, 1987 that the renovated Capitol Theatre re-opened as the North Bay Arts Centre.

In this archive audio clip, also from April 1987, we hear from Lorne Moore, who was the assistant manager of the Capitol Theatre when it opened in 1929.

The facility was named the Capitol Centre in 1997.
