Mobile offices could be on the way for North Bay Police.

They’re looking at adding smartphone technology along with docking stations and a screen in police cruisers.

President and CEO of Mobile Innovations Gary Bauer tells BayToday it all involves added security on the phone.

“On the phone itself is a piece of software that we produce, a native Android application that provides connection to the niche records management system, which is what we’re using here for police records,” he says.

Police Chief Shawn Devine tells BayToday that officers won’t have to rely on dispatchers to run license plates, but that’s not all.

“This is going to give our officers the ability, in the future, if they need to take a statement at the scene and send it directly to the police station or over to the courts,” he says.

Officers would also be able to run licence plates in the vehicle instead of through dispatch.

On the financial side, Devine says officers would be able to dock the phones back at the station, eliminating the need for old tower-style computers.

The hope is to have the technology fully implemented within two years.
