The union representing 70 motor coach operators, dispatchers and operator labourers have reached a tentative five year agreement with Ontario Northland.

Details won’t be announced until the employees represented by Teamsters Canada Rail Conference Division 910 have voted on the deal.

Spokesperson Paul Boucher says the agreement addresses a number of topics that were important to members with a focus on quality of life.

He says in the transportation industry, families are affected, which was recognized by Ontario Northland in the bargaining process.

Transportation, including passenger rail service, between Toronto, North Bay, Timmins and Cochrane is the focus of a government survey that’s underway.
Officials say responses will be used to explore options for passenger rail and service and improve bus services.
The survey looks at preferences for departure times, train frequency, travel time and cost considerations.
“We’re inviting everyone, particularly in Northeastern Ontario, to take our survey and help build a transportation network that works for their needs,” said Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation. “The feedback we receive will be an important component to improving transportation options for northern communities and supporting economic growth in the north.”
The survey is open to public feedback, including municipalities, Indigenous communities, businesses and industry.
“As part of our government’s plan for passenger rail services in the North, we are seeking input and feedback on key details from the public,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade and MPP for Nipissing. “This survey will allow people in Nipissing and communities across the region to have their say in continuing to improve those vital connections.”
The deadline for submissions is November 20th.
