Kiwanis Playworld, a new city playground area is officially open.

A ribbon cutting was held Thursday to open the facility in Lee Park.

Ralph Celentano, chair of the Kiwanis Club of Nipissing’s Playground Equipment Committee says it includes a ‘inclusive playspace’ planned and designed for children of all physical abilities

“We installed $278,000 worth of equipment on top and $178,000 rubberized safety surface was completed earlier this year,” he says.

As well, there’s a $100,000 fitness area for everyone to use.

Celentano says they consulted with several community groups including One Kids Place. Nipissing Association for Disabled Youth, the YMCA and Community Living North Bay.

“We reached out a couple of years ago to get their encouragement and support and during that their feedback was remarkable. It shaped out what we’re delivering,” he says.

The Stockfish and Thomson families each donated $10,000 to the project.
