Gateway to the Arts is coming to Downtown North Bay next month.

The new collaborative art gallery and store front is opening in the 100 block of Main Street West.

One of the founders Karrie Emms tells BayToday they’re looking for artists to get involved.

“Painters, sculptors, fine arts for the most part. We’re a co-operative environment so we have four of us that have founded it, but we’re looking for members to come on board and actually work within the co-op,” she says.

Shanan King, Anne Brule and Sudbury photographer Dani Lynn Redgrift-Berthelot are also behind the downtown initiative.
The co-op will support northern Ontario artists through mentorship, studio and storefront exposure, business seminars, community events participation and workshops.

One of the memberships is for youth up to the age of 24.

“To experience everything from running a business, to learning from the artists that are in the building. We have a position for an at risk community member. So somebody identified by a group like Art Fix, which works with people who have mental health and drug addiction issues,” Emms tells BayToday.

“The co-op will strive to offer affordable studio space to artists and a retail environment for patrons with workshops, guest artists and opportunities for growth and mentorship,” says Emms.

Their soft opening is October 1st with a grand opening in November.
