Lavigne’s Canvas has re-tooled their production line to manufacture face masks, face shields and protective service counter curtains.

The move was made in response to COVID-19 and the need for personal protective equipment.

Pat Lavigne tells BayToday they’re usually busy right now with products like boat tops, upholstery work and awnings.

“Usually everybody is thinking of getting their boats out and getting their service done on their canvas, that’s what we’re usually busy doing right now, but with these events that hasn’t even started yet,” he says.

Lavigne says they’ve developed their own designs for the masks.

“It’s resistant against droplets, so that it won’t soak up the moisture, it repeals it and they’re breathable. Our face shields are made out of a clear vinyl that we use for our boat tops,” he adds.

Officials say although the masks share the same design of approved masks, they have not been tested or certified.

They made the change to their production line to help front line medical workers or any other businesses that are looking to purchase equipment.

Lavigne’s is also looking to hire people experienced at cutting and sewing as soon as possible.
