At an emergency meeting of city council on Friday day a special motion was passed to give municipal taxpayers relief on the interest on their tax bills and water bills.

With the province bringing in emergency powers because of COVID-19 many are feeling the pinch.

The city says it wants to provide assistance, and if you can’t pay your water bill don’t sweat it and they’ll work something out.

Councillor Tanya Vrebosch says some are going through a difficult time and if the city can take the pressure off that’s a good thing.

The city says starting this month, interest and penalties for tax and water payments will be waived, as an initial step.

Once more is known about how long COVID-19 measures will be in place, City staff will work with residents and businesses to develop payment plans.
