Preparations are well underway for the 10th Armed Forces Day in North Bay. There will be two air shows at the waterfront on Wednesday June 10th.

Honorary Col. George Burton says several top acts have already committed to the event.

“During the morning show we’ll have The Snowbirds and The Skyhawks and in the evening we’ll have the CF-18 and The Skyhawks,” he says.

Show times are 10:30 am-2 pm and 6-9 pm.

Burton says there will also be ground displays and musical entertainment too featuring the 22 Wing Concert Band and the Canadian Military Wives Choir. For more information on the event go to www.armedforces.ca

22 Wing Commander Col. Mark LaChapelle says the theme this year is Soaring to New Heights but they will also be recognizing the 75th anniversary of the end of World War Two.

“These milestones and markers throughout the year lend to the homage of those that came before us.We must ensure we don’t forget their service and sacrifice. And at the same time, we recognize those that perform service and sacrifice today,” he says.

He says military members live here and contribute to the community so it’s nice to get recognized every year on Armed Forces Day.

Honorary Col. George Burton says there will be opportunities to meet and greet the pilots and get autographs as well.

Burton says more activities will be announced closer to the event.
