A grade five class at Alliance French Immersion School has wrapped up a successful initiative that was all about learning more about the Warming Centre and Gathering Place, and helping those in need at the same time.
Grade five teacher Alyson Roynon tells Baytoday it was all a part of their social studies curriculum.
“They were so excited to present to all of the classes in the school about what the project was going to entail, and how our school community could get involved in giving back to those who are in need in our city,”she says.
Gathering Place Executive Director Dennis Chippa tells BayToday not only were practical items collected that will be handed out, the project is about young people being aware of the very real situation of homelessness in our community.
“Alliance has always been a very big supporter of the Gathering Place and the Warming Centre, the fact that the students were so passionate about it, I think it’s a really positive thing for the future,” he says.
Two full tables of items were collected, including tissues, cough drops, power bars, power drinks and more.
