A 30,000 square foot cannabis manufacturing facility is being built on Nipissing First Nation.

Golden Harvest Organics Inc. started construction earlier this month with the plans to be be up and running in January of next year.

Chief Operating Officer Adam Allard told Bay Today says applications for 80 employees won’t be accepted until the summer.

“We have standard operating procedure and people will need to undergo background checks. Some positions will need special education but not all,” he says.

Other safeguards include eight foot barbed-wired perimeter fencing with a detection system, finger scanner and key card access on every door in the facility and a secure vault that safeguards all processed cannabis.

llard told BayToday they have community support behind them.

“We did community consultations with Nipisisng First Nation last October and we have support from chief and council,: Allard says.
