North Bay City Councillor Mark King is pushing for a new city park.

He says the location would be on city property near Four Mile Lake and he has a name too.

He wants to name the park in honour of the Algonquin Regiment after a suggestion from local World War Two veteran Bill Parfit.

“He was a rear gunner in the Second World War. He has a long military history,” he says.

King says his dad served with the Algonquin regiment so the designation would mean a lot to the King family.

“He served in the Second World War. He spent almost two years in a prison of war camp. There’s a lot of historical value here and naming a park after the regiment would be very fitting,” he says.
King says he hopes to see a report at the next council meeting.

King says there would be almost no cost but the city would have to provide some road access and parking availability.

He says there’s an undeveloped trail system nearby that is being used.
