Support for the visually impaired locally.

An app has been developed by Y4U Technologies which will enable people to overcome barriers inside buildings.

The app is called Accessibuild  and General Manager of Y4U Technologies Jeff Godfrey says it enables visually impaired people to navigate indoor environments independently.

He says within the app there’s a directory and you can also search by voice recognition.

“And you search for the location. You would know your departure point by the signage within the building. You would set the points on the app and the it would create a path for you to get there,” he says.

Godfrey says a test model has been developed at 176 Lakeshore and the app will be officially launched early next month.

Brian Bibeau is chair of the Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee.

He served as a tester and says the app gives him independence.

“Now I can go anywhere in the building or any location that has the app. I can go independently and won’t have to wait on someone to assist me,” Bibeau says.
