A committee of city council has approved a rezoning request which if approved by the full council would pave the way for a condominium development just off Lakeshore Drive around the 700 block.

At a committee meeting this week, local planner Rick Miller spoke for the developer Lotus North Bay & Rhombi North Bay Development on the project.

“Two buildings, four stories, thirty two condominium units in each building and they are two bedroom and two bath units. It’s a good location and it’s close to public transit,” he says.

Miler says if council approves in the New Year work would start in the spring.

He says they have done a traffic study and there would be minimal impact.

Senior City Planner Peter Carello says the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority has expressed some concern.

“There is a potential for un-evaluated wetlands and Species At Risk being present and they need a study to confirm there will be no impact on these features as a result of this development,” Carello says.

He says the NBMCA is not putting up road blocks at this point.
