Will it be ‘East beats West’ or ‘West is best’ this year?

The East West hockey and school spirit competition is taking place at Memorial Gardens tomorrow (Friday).

Chippewa Grade 12 student Ally Carter says this will be her fourth East West.

“The highlight for me is probably performing our two minute cheer for our school.  We put so much work into the cheer, for the two weeks prior to the cheer, then seeing it come together for the day is really nice,” she says.

The high school tradition locally includes six periods of hockey, four for the boys and two for girls, with cheer and spirit awards up for grabs too.

“No matter what school board everyone is from, we all come together for a fun day of hockey, and we’re all there to support one another and cheer each other on,” says Chippewa Grade 11 student Dominique Desormeau, who will be attending her second East West tomorrow

Schools on the East side are Almaguin, West Ferris, St Joseph-Scollard Hall, FJ McElligott, Algonquin and Élisabeth-Bruyère.

Odyssée, Franco-Cité, Northern/Nipissing Ouest, Widdifield and Chippewa are the West schools.
