There were no injuries after a Saturday morning house fire on the 100 block of Whitney Avenue in North Bay.

City fire crews were dispatched around 10:30 am with thick plumes of smoke coming from the home, that were visible across the city, including the Airport Hill area.

Platoon Chief Mike Newman tells BayToday the call came in as a detached shed fire.

We think the fire started on the outside in the shed and burnt up into the attic. When we arrived on the scene we had flames blowing out all the attic space, the soffits, gable and vents,” he says.

There’s no word on a cause of the fire, which was contained to the home.

We were successful to containing it to the attic space, obviously there’s going to be damage to the house because of everything coming down into the home, but primarily the fire is on the rear shed and in the attic space, the guys were able to contain it there,” he tells BayToday.

Newman says a man and woman, and their dog got out safely from the home.

The couple was taken to hospital as a precaution.

A few side streets near the home are block off as crews had to run hoses to a fire hydrant on Gertrude Street.
