A positive step forward for an NDP bill involving the Northern Health Travel Grant.

The opposition bill — which looks to establish an advisory committee that will consult with northern families and health care workers on ways to improve the grant — has passed second reading.

The bill’s author, a New Democrat MPP from Thunder Bay says northerners have been clear that the existing grant doesn’t work for them, with low reimbursement rates, long wait times and having to pay travel costs upfront.
