Teachers and occasional teachers represented by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation in the Near North have voted 97 % in favor of strike action.

This is similar to the rest of the province which voted 95.5 % in favor.

Chief Negotiator of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation in the Near North Dave Weichel says members have already seen the drastic impact of cuts to education and they know that they are going to get even worse in the next two years and they won’t let that happen.

The release says the vote does not mean that teachers will be going on strike and negotiators continue to try and work towards a fair deal with the government.

However, a strike mandate does give the union and its members the option of instituting strike action to help push the process forward.
