A local fundraising effort continues to generate support and has reached $5,000.

The campaign which is raising money for breast cancer research was spearheaded by Clark Heipel of Your TV after he learned a fellow journalist Brittany Bortolon had developed breast cancer.

On Tuesday, he thanked the North Bay Police Association for a $500 donation and specifically the president Sgt. Aaron Northrup with an individual one for getting the campaign going.

“That really made me take a step back and say we could do something big here and raise a good amount of money and signify what Britt means to this community. And how we’re all feeling for her,” Heipel says.

Northrup says he encouraged Heipel to put pressure on the fire department and they matched the police association donation.

Heipel says an event is in the works for later this year to raise funds for Bortolon who is currently undergoing chemotherapy and the funds would support her expenses as she’s taken time off work.

Heipel also made a presentation at city council.
