École secondaire publique Odyssée in North Bay has joined the growing global community of International Baccalaureate world schools.

The middle years program is open to all Odyssée students in grades seven through ten, with officials saying it helps develop curiosity, communication, integrity and open-mindedness.

The diploma program is available for students in grades 11 and 12, which IB says may help them have access to the best universities.

There are 4,775 IB world schools in 147 different countries.

Officials say IB programs have a positive influence on students, educational institutions, and the community at large, since it’s based on the idea that learning goes far beyond the classroom.

Its unique and innovative approach to learning relies on a true commitment from both the students and teaching staff to have a wealth of educational, well-balanced and stimulating experiences allowing students to build a better world.
