The North Bay Battalion net had three different goalies in it over the weekend at the OHL pre-season showcase in Kitchener.

Joe Vrbetic was clearly the busiest as he faced 61 shots in a 6-5 loss to the host team on Friday.

570 News reporter Mark Pare says he made a good account for himself.

“He was able to move left to right with ease. He didn’t give in to scrambles and tracked the puck very well,” Pare says.

Christian Purboo made 38 saves in a 3-2 loss to Peterborough on Saturday and Christian Cicigoi had 37 saves in a 5-2 loss to Saginaw on Sunday.

Pare says all three goalies played well.

He says he was also impressed with the teams first round pick in the OHL Priority selection Liam Arnsby.

“When he’s not scoring he’s drawing penalties. When he does get going he could be a very powerful weapon. Brad Chenier looked good and he showed his skills moving around the offensive zone with ease,” he says.

Chenier had two goals this weekend and Arnsby had an assist.

Pare says another rookie, Alex Christopoulos played on the top line for a while and didn’t look uncomfortable.

The Troops next pre-season game is a week from Saturday.
