This year’s Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference gets underway today and the city is well represented.

Mayor Al McDonald, several councillors and several senior members of city staff will be at the event in Ottawa.

All three major political party leaders and seven cabinet ministers will be on hand so it’s a great chance for municipal leaders to talk to them and outline their major priorities.

The city delegation will hold meetings with Health Minister Christine Elliott and Finance Minister Rod Phillips.

And there will also be sessions with Greg Rickford, Indigenous Affairs and Northern Development and Mines Minister, and the Associate Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.

Key issues include cyber security, cannabis legalization, local economies in transition, changes to the health care system, recycling, affordable housing and municipal policing.
