The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit says fewer adults are going to the emergency department for dental issues since a new clinic for low income adults was opened.

Last year, there were 630 dental related visits made to the department and that’s 170 fewer than 2017.

In a release, the health unit says that’s a 21 % decrease.

The health unit says 561 adults used the clinic last year and 591 have used it as of the end of June this year.

There is a wait time of six months currently but emergency appointments can be made.

The adult clinic provides preventative, routine and emergency dental services free of charge for individuals 18 years of age and older, from the Nipissing and Parry Sound districts, who meet the eligibility criteria.
