Northeast Region OPP are targeting aggressive driving this Canada Day long weekend.
Ontario Provincial Police say there will be zero tolerance for any aggressive driving-related offences like speeding, stunt driving and following too close, to name a few.

They say there were 31 fatal collisions on OPP patrolled roadways in the northeast in 2018.

There was also four off-road vehicle fatal collisions and 12 marine related fatalities.

In 2018, the North Bay OPP laid 36 charges of stunt driving under the Highway Traffic Act. So far in 2019, they have charged 15 drivers with stunt driving.

At roadside, drivers face a seven day drivers’ licence suspension and their vehicle is impounded for seven days.
Upon a first conviction, drivers face penalties of a fine of up to $10,000 and driver’s licence suspensions of up to two years.

Aggressive driving is one of the ‘Big Four’ behaviours OPP are watching for.

The other three include alcohol/drug impaired, inattentive driving and lack of occupant restraint.

Staff Sergeant Bill McMullen, Detachment Commander of the North Bay OPP, advises that, “In 2019, the North Bay OPP Detachment investigated over 290 motor vehicle collisions, including 36 personal injury and 1 fatal collision.

Each of these ‘Big Four’ behaviours remains a serious public safety issue and contributes to a significant number of road deaths every year. Please slow down and drive sober!”
