This is National Public Works Week and the city is honouring those workers who keep the water flowing, roads plowed and parks clean.

A host of events are lined up Tuesday through Thursday (listed below).

Chair of Infrastructure and Operations Councillor Chris Mayne says it’s about showing appreciation for the work that city employees do and share some of the projects the city is involved with.

“People will actually have a hands on look at what we do around the city, how we’re involved with designing some of the major projects that are ongoing right now, and just the operation of some of the things we take for granted, like the water intake plant on Lakeside Drive,” he says.

Meantime, Mayne says it’s been a busy six months, or so for city crews.

“Snow volumes, road conditions, ice and salt conditions. A lot of that has kept up, they’ve gone from looking after winter maintenance to flood conditions around the city and everyone has pitched in,” he says.
