A local resident says building a new arena and community centre in North Bay provides the opportunity to celebrate seniors too.

Daniel Selin presented to council last week saying that the city’s largest demographic should be included.

He says it needs to be more than just about ice pads.

“One way is if we were to build something for senior citizens that would compliment recreation, socialization and education,” he says.

Selin says there’s no facility in North Bay that can offer that right now.

“We’re going to do some walking, enjoy the fresh air, feel the sun, and you’re going to get the chance to get a coffee and that’s completely different than what’s being offered now,” he says.

Selin also says there should be a mission statement to support making North Bay the healthiest community in Canada.

Council voted last week to move ahead with a new arena, to replace the West Ferris Arena, at the Omischl site.
