North Bay’s Nick Laporte is being impacted by the WOW Air bankruptcy.

The Icelandic budget airliner announced it’s ceasing operations, stranding passengers in North America and Europe.

Laporte is on his way to Sweden for track and field training and posted a video to Facebook last night from a WOW Air ticket counter.

Reached through Facebook, Laporte says he’s currently stuck in Toronto and is working on getting another flight for this evening.

“Obviously the news of bankruptcy stings a little bit, a lot of people are stranded and we can’t get our money back,” he says. “Trying to find flights out of here are costing nearly double the amount, but I’m just looking forward to getting to Sweden and putting the work boots on.”

Laporte is looking to qualify and compete in the 100m event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

WOW grounded at least six planes in North America that were set to leave last night from Montreal, Toronto, Boston, Detroit, New York and Baltimore.

Below is the video Laporte posted to Facebook last night.
