North Bay City Council has endorsed Powassan’s request for support of a proposed new long term care home in Trout Creek.

Councillor Chris Mayne says the private development if approved by the province would replace the 66 bed Lady Isabelle Nursing Home which was shut down by the government in 2017.

“They’ve had to re-apply for those beds. This prooposal is for 96 beds,” he says.

Wilsondale Asset Management has applied to the ministry for a licence and a copy of the resolution has been passed on to the government and Powasssan.

Meantime, the city is going to bid on becoming the host community for the 2020 and 2022 Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities annual conference.

City Council has approved a motion to bid on hosting the conference in those years.

Councillor Tanya Vrebosch says there are several benefits to hosting including getting 250 delegates and exhibitors here for several days but that’s not all.

“You also have different ministers coming to the city. That’s a great resource as we’ll have greater access to them. We’ll be to showcase the city to the ministers and municipal representatives form across the north,” Vrebosch says.
