The North Bay Battalion moved into a 7th place tie in the Eastern Conference standings after beating Sudbury 4-2 Sunday afternoon.

The Battalion and Hamilton Bulldogs both have 59 points, three more than Barrie, with the Troops hosting the Colts this Thursday.

Christian Propp (pictured) made 46 saves in yesterday’s win.

Assistant Coach Adam Dennis says the team stayed focus and good defense lead to good opportunities for their offence.

“The last two games our goaltending has been exceptional and has given us a chance to stay in the games, and we were able to beat a good goalie. We knew we weren’t going to get the pretty ones against him,” he says.

Mitchell Russell scored the game winner with under five minutes to play in the third, breaking a 2-2 tie.

Dennis says it was a big goal from Russell.

“I’ve been calling him Mitchell Hustle the last little while. He loves the game and he works his butt off and today (Sunday) was no different. He’s a tough guy to play against,” he says.

Luke Burghardt added an empty net goal, while Harrison Caines and Brad Chenier scored earlier in the game.
