City police and North Bay Fire Prevention are investigating after a suspicious fire Sunday afternoon on the 100 block of Main Street East.

Platoon Chief Greg Kraft says North Bay Fire and Emergency Services responded to 136 Main Street East around 3 pm.

“We had a call that there was a fire in the four unit apartment building. Once we arrived on the scene we saw there was a little bit of a disturbance on the outside, once we went inside it was definitely a working fire,” he says. “Smoke and flame, but it was contained in the hallway, it was definitely arson.”

In a release, Fire Chief Jason Whiteley says crews rescued one person and contained another resident from trying to re-enter the building.

He says emergency crews also had to deal with a fight between three people outside of the building.

North Bay EMS treated and transported two people to hospital and North Bay Police have detained one person.

The investigation continues.

The 100 block of Main Street East was closed to traffic for just over an hour.

There’s no word on a damage estimate at this time.
