Several local lifters won medals at the 2019 Special Olympics Ontario regional powerlifting championship on Sunday.

The event was held at Canadore’s Commerce Court Campus.

Gold medals were won by Carley Tucker, Jackelyn Osborne and Benjamin Chain.

Kevin Grigg won silver and Dylon Knight won bronze.

Ben Sheelers (photo above submitted) was fourth in his event.

 

Trappers goalie Ben Gaudreau and Team Ontario are 2-1 at the Canada Winter Games after the preliminary round.

Gaudreau picked up the shutout in a 5-0 win over Nova Scotia in game one and stopped 54 shots in the team’s third game, a 7-3 loss to Quebec last night (Mon).

Team Ontario plays BC in the quarterfinals tomorrow (Wednesday).

In Freestyle skiing, North Bay’s Aidan Matthews was 18th in aerials and 11th in moguls.

 

The Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team is in Toronto tomorrow night for game one of their first round playoff series against the Varsity Blues.

The Lakers are home for game two on Friday night.

If necessary, game three is back in Toronto on Sunday.

 

The North Bay Youth Volleyball Club U14 Lakers won gold at the OVA Bugarski Cup tournament on the weekend.

They went undefeated, at 5-0, to win the tournament, including a 2-1 victory over Markham in the final.

 

Two local Vision Volleyball clubs competed in the Capitol Hill Classic in Washington, DC over the weekend.

The 14 under girls team finished with a 7-1 record and was fifth out of 64 teams.

Their only loss came in the quarterfinals against the team that would go on to win the division.

The 15 under girls team was 17th out of 96 teams with a 5-2 record.
