It’s Family Day weekend and there’s plenty on the go locally.

This is the first of four licence-free fishing events this year in Ontario.

Saturday through Monday (Feb 16-18), Canadian residents of all ages can enjoy fishing Ontario waters, like Lake Nipissing, without having to buy a licence.

Other free fishing opportunities are coming up Mother’s Day weekend, Father’s Day weekend and Family Fishing week the first week of July (June 29 to July 7).

“This upcoming Family Day weekend is a great opportunity to experience licence-free ice fishing and is a reminder that fishing is a year-round sport, and not just a summer hobby,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “It’s also a great way to get children hooked on fishing.”

Anglers are reminded to stay safe and to check local ice conditions before heading onto the ice to fish.
