The North Bay Reocvery Home is turning 50 years old this year.

They are planning several events including a golden anniversary gala in October.

Executive Director Wendy Prieur says this also offers a chance to let the community know about the organization, the work they do and the people they help.

“We’re trying to get the point across to the general population that dependance on alcohol or drugs is a disease and not a choice and people struggle with it every day,” she says.

Prieur says one of the issues they struggle with is their waiting list.

She says it’s better for people who want to get off alcohol or drug dependency but it’s still 9 months down from 2 years.

“9 months is 9 months too long. Somebody that recognizes it’s time to change should have a service to access right away,” she says.

She says they also have a new logo and slogan Open Our Door Change Your Life.
