A feather in the cap for everyone who worked on last year’s Ford World Women’s Curling Championship.

The Economic Developers Council of Ontario recently held their Awards of Excellence.

North Bay’s effort in hosting the curling “Experience North Bay” won out in the Special Events category for communities with a population of 50,000 – 250,000.

North Bay Mayor Al McDonald says everyone worked together on putting on a good show for the world.

“It’s something we can be proud of as an event for our community because it is still spoken about on the national stage,” he says.

He says the success sends a message to other groups.

“We put on a world class event for a world championship. And that will give confidence to other areas and sectors to be able to host their events in North Bay,” McDonald says.

He says those groups include the city’s economic development department, the chamber of commerce, Tourism North Bay, Invest North Bay and of course the North Bay Granite Club.

The Economic Developers Council of Ontario received 98 submissions for the award.
