North Bay City Council has given its approval to a municipal accomodation tax in North Bay hotel rooms.

Councillor Mike Anthony says 4% of every bill will go to the tax.

“And it comes to the city and Tourism North Bay. This is positive and this is new money that can be used for tourism initiatives. For the city we can use it on things that assist or promote tourism,” he says.

Anthony says Tourism North Bay can help bring more visitors here to local hotel rooms with their increased funds.

“They should be able to use this to try and show off North Bay more which means you could see occupancy go up from the 52 % we have right now to 70 plus %,” he says.

Back in September, the city wanted something passed by council on this before February 1st.
