Canada’s National Champion para powerlifter is from North Bay and has his sights set on the World Para Powerlifting championship this December in Columbia.

Jake Beaton has fought his way through medical and health issues as a person with spina bifida.

“I’ve always tried to keep a positive outlook, I’ve always been physically active and have competed in competitive sports, whether it be hockey or lifting,” he says.

Beaton has been playing sledge hockey with the North Bay Ice Breakers for 20 years and has been powerlifting for three years.

He won his National title last winter in Calgary.

“So far I’ve won every event I’ve entered, including setting a national record for my weight class in Calgary,” he says.

Beaton is a Canadore grad in two programs and is in the third year of the machinist program.

He’s looking to represent Canada at Tokyo 2020.

A fundraising campaign (CLICK HERE) has been launched to help get Jake to Worlds, which are set for December 9th in Bogota, Columbia.
