The Rotary Club of North Bay is highlighting the success of its Youth Exchange Student Program.

At a luncheon this week Rotary members heard from Irene Garmendia.

She is currently attending school at Chippewa and learning all about North Bay.

Garmendia who is from Madrid, Spain says her father is a Rotary member back home and she learned about the exchange program when she was younger, and wanted to take part in it.

“At a young age and get to meet new people and learn about new cultures is great. This has been a really positive experience,” she says.

Kelly McQuiod is the chair of the Rotary’s youth exchange committee.

She says not many students take advantage of the program, which is application based.

“I would really like to see the program grow over the next couple of years. The program is amazing. How else do you get the opportunity to go to another country and explore the culture so thoroughly,” she says.

There is an information session for local students coming up who may be interested in the Rotary’s youth exchange program.

It’s taking place at Cecil’s on October 9th at 7 pm.
