The North Bay-Parry Sound District Health Unit says a harmful algae bloom has been found on Lake Bernard in Strong Township.

The health unit says toxins in the algae can irritate the skin and, if swallowed, cause diarrhea and vomiting.

The health unit says it is being recommended that you not use the water for drinking, cooking, bathing, and brushing teeth and avoid swimming and water sports in the area as well.

They say if you are on a private system boiling the water will not destroy the toxins.
