The Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference continues today in Ottawa.

City councillor Mark King is part of the five-person city delegation.

This is the first AMO conference for the new Ford government and King is giving them good marks for listening.

He says they’re brand new and figuring which direction they can go in.

“I don’t get the sense that they’re not prepared to work for the betterment of North Bay and Nipissing,” King says.

He says they’ve held several meetings so far with cabinet ministers, including Lisa MacLeod who is responsible for children, youth, community and social services issues.

One issue discussed was the Cassellholme redevelopment

“Kind of give them the heads up with this, and the fact that we want to move ahead with the development was very, very timely, I think to give them a start at it.” he says.

King says they also discussed mental health and addiction supports and concerns raised recently by local landlords with MacLeod.

Other meetings were held with the Attorney General, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities.
