Two local students have been accepted into a prestigious national summer program.

SHAD is all about developing innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership among Canada’s best and brightest youth.

Mathieu Prinja is a grade 10 student at Algonquin.

He’ll be going to Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia this July.

“You really get to see many opportunities of STEAM, which is Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics and that really broadens your horizons,” he says.

Prinja is also looking forward to meeting other bright-minded, gifted and innovative students and the challenges involved with the program.

“We do know that every year there is a challenge or theme and we’re put into groups and we have to figure out a solution to a current world problem,” he says.

Prinja is thinking of a career in either the medical field or law and says he’s hopeful SHAD will help point him in the right direction.

West Ferris grade 11 student Caleb Charette has also been accepted into the SHAD program.

He’ll be heading to McMaster University in Hamilton this July.
