In 4 days the 2018 Ford World Women’s Curling Championship will be getting underway at Memorial Gardens.

Co-chair of the organizing committee Dave Bennett says with the ice and building being worked on to turn a hockey arena into a championship curling event the excitement is beginning to build.

He says people who are showing up at the gardens this week are pumped.

“They’re excited. I think people are realizing now that this is a big event. The transformation is underway. We’re going to have a great 9 days starting on Saturday,” he says.
Saturday’s first draw at 2 is preceded by the opening ceremonies at 11:30 and you don’t need to have a ticket to attend them.

“There’s going to be a big tribute to our athletes. We really hope North Bay and area comes out and welcomes the world to North Bay.”

There will be 13 teams.

Bennett says they’ll be arriving over the next 3 days and they will hit the ice to get used to all the sheets between noon and 5:15 on Friday.
