An effort by Community Living North Bay to raise $1-million towards a new $4-million building has almost reached the halfway point.

Spokesperson Darlene Brooks (pictured) told directors at last night’s North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce meeting that the group has topped $400,000.

The other three million will come in the form of a mortgage as the government isn’t contributing any money.

Brooks says a new building is badly needed.

“It’s going to create some efficiencies because everybody is going to be under one roof and it’s going to be accessible to people and their families,” she says.

Right now the organization, with a staff of 270 and a client list of 550, is scattered across the city.
