The Near North District School Board has begun the process of developing it’s timelines following two recent consolidation decisions.

In June, trustees voted to consolidate three elementary schools, E.T.Carmichael, E.W. Norman and W.J.Fricker into one brand new JK-6 facility at the Fricker site on Norman Avenue.

The board says a proposal for capital funding has been submitted to the ministry and if their application is successful a new facility would be open by the fall of 2020.

Meantime, the Director of Education and senior staff have been meeting with staff at the Board’s three city high schools to discuss enhancing student program options.

With Widdifield slated to close, the board is consolidating the three schools into two at the West Ferris and Chippewa sites.

Students and parents will be involved in the next phase.

As well, no new accommodations reviews will be conducted until the ministry’s accommodation review guideline is finished and the moratorium on ARC’s is lifted.
