A couple of developments on the new arena issue in North Bay.

The date for the arena committee to make a decision has been extended from the end of the month to the end of the year.

Community Services Committee chair Mark King says this will give committee members the needed time to go through all the geotech information before coming up with a final recommendation for the two official proposals.

They are behind Memorial Gardens and at the Omischl Sports Complex.

Meantime, Councillor Jeff Serran wants the city to consider to West Ferris Secondary School as a possible 3rd option.

“Why not utilize their property have a joint city-school board partnership and have something all schools could use as it would be a city arena,” he says.

King says he’s open to looking at other suggestions.

“I would have looked at that at the first committee meeting if infact there was something solid from the school board. We don’t know what their disposition is as far as West Ferris school is concerned,” he says.
