Over 500,000 students are being impacted by a strike at Ontario’s 24 colleges, including Canadore.

The College Employer Council, which bargains for the colleges, says the Ontario Public Service Employees Union rejected its latest contract proposal.

The employer says they were offering terms that were as good or better than recent settlements with teachers, college support staff, hospital professionals, and other provincial workers.

The union, meantime, presented a new offer on the weekend that called for the number of full time faculty to match the number of faculty members on contract, improvements in job security and for a stronger voice in academic decision making.

There’s no indication yet when talks might resume.
