Crime is down in most areas year to year in North Bay as of the end of August.

That includes the major areas like sexual offenses, assaults, robberies, drug charges and total criminal offenses.

Break and enters are up by 10 to 125.

Deputy Chief Scott Tod says there has been a lot of news lately about motor vehicle collisions, but people should remember many are on the bypass and those are looked into by the OPP.

He says there are many reasons accidents are occurring.

“They include inattentive driving, failure to follow the rules of the road by not stopping safely, failing to follow traffic signals and not using signals to let other motorists know what is going on around them,”  Tod says.

He says they are addressing road safety through a traffic enforcement plan, but the stats say there has not been a significant increase in accidents resulting in personal injuries.

Total criminal offenses are 220 less than the end of August last year.

Calls for service are down by 185.
