We told you last week that the Ontario government is giving more choice for parents who have children with autism.

The Minister of Children and Youth Services Michael Coteau announcing a permanent direct funding option that will allow families to choose either direct service or funding to purchase services

Josee Robichaud is the family support coordinator for Autism Ontario in North Eastern Ontario.

She says the announcement is being met with positive reviews.

She says giving parents more choice has been asked for and it’s nice to see the government is listening.

She says parents will have more flexibility.

She points out there aren’t a lot of private service providers in the north so most parents take their child to One KIds Place or HANDS The Family Help Network but there is a private service provider data base that Autism Ontario uses.
