Government debt and what’s being done to reduce it was the subject at Question Period in the Ontario Legislature on Thursday.

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli wanted to know why the government couldn’t support a PC motion to immediately start paying down the debt.

He asked the premier to provide a long term plan to get the provinces debt under control.

The premier passed the question to the President of the Treasury Board Liz Sandals.

She pointed out the government will be balancing the budget when its presented later this month.

She says the borrowing amount is 2.6 Billion less than budgeted.

As well, Sandals says they’ve been able to meet their interest targets.

She says there’s a lot of good news that the PC’s have chosen to ignore.

This years budget will be presented on Thursday April 27th.
